Vote Earth - choose the earth

What is Vote Earth?

Vote Earth is an initiativ which is involved in the fight against global warming and climate change. Vote Earth is the first worldwide referendum for a better climate protection. It is its goal to set a clear sign for climate protection. This is especially important with regard to the upcoming world climate confernce in Copenhagen from 7th to 18th December 2009. In Copenhagen, the most important and most powerful politicians will meet and decide about the future of our planet.

How did Vote Earth start?

The advancing climate change is a worldwide issue which can only be dealt with globally. Switching off the lights for an hour - the so-called Earth Hour - was the beginning of this initiative. In march 2009 lights went out in more than 4000 cities, among them 70 nations' capitals, all around the world. One thousand world-famous sights were in the dark for an hour. Among the many houndreds of sights were the Pyramids of Gizeh, the Eiffel Tower and the highest sky scrapers in the world. More than 1 billion people, almost 20.000 enterprises, 8.000 schools and 5.500 organisations are supporting the campaign actively. With this demonstration Earth Hour became the most successful WWF-campaign of all times.

But our planet needs more than one hour of attention.

How can I participate?

Everyone can participate on www.earthhour.org and give its vote for Vote Earth. WWF will hand over every single vote to the decision-makers in order to convince them to finally sign a climate treaty for the protection of our planet. It is Vote Earth's aim to activate the global partners and supporters of the Earth Hour campaign as well as to increase the number of climate protectionists. It is about time to set a sign for climate protection. Every vote counts and it only takes a few minutes to vote.
